A new initiative will see a public house in Greater Manchester’s Leigh benefit from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system.
The Elm Pub in Leigh has been recently plagued by a raft of anti-social behaviour, and it is hoping that the new security option will put a stop to it. Commercial enterprises like restaurants and pubs considering a security system installation in Chester, Leigh and other areas of northern England can depend on certified electricians to fit equipment. Experts on a range of solutions, from wireless CCTV cameras to motion detectors, they can advise on the best devices to suit a firm’s individual needs.
The Wetherspoons-owned establishment approached the local council after many years of trying to tackle issues on its own. Incidents such as drinkers fighting were often spilling into the pub’s beer garden and causing problems for staff and other customers.
Now, council heads have agreed to the installation of a 360-degree CCTV device to be mounted nearby on Elm Road to act as a deterrent and catch those involved in illegal activities on camera.
Southend councillor for environment and planning, Carole Mulroney, commented on the new solution:
“It will be 360 degrees, so they will have a view up and down the road. We have been pursuing this throughout lockdown, it’s been an issue for a while. CCTV like this is a really good weapon in the armoury, but it’s a shame it’s come to this.”
The camera will be one of 40 brand-new devices being added to the borough’s existing system, which currently includes 165 cameras.
