A recent fire in a Cex outlet based in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk saw 30 firefighters attend to tackle the blaze.
Crews spent close to seven hours at the shop located on King Street, which specialises in electronics, as they joined forces to battle the blaze. Damage was also suffered by stores nearby. Excessive smoke and soot from the fire entered Kierran’s Home Store, a ground-floor premises next door, resulting in unusable stock that had to be destroyed.
Those operating commercial enterprises like supermarkets and high street shops have a legal responsibility to ensure their properties are safeguarded against fire. All devices for fire protection and prevention, like alarms and detectors, must be maintained and tested by certified professionals. Businesses needing a fire or smoke alarm installation in Chester, Great Yarmouth and elsewhere can rely on electricians to fit equipment and service it regularly.
According to the BBC, a spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Service for Norfolk commented that, at the fire’s height, a total of six dedicated fire vehicles, along with an aerial ladder, were present at the scene. An investigation is currently underway to identify the cause of the blaze at the Cex store.
A statement made by the company commented on its plans following the incident:
“Cex will reopen in Great Yarmouth. We will be in a position to understand how long that might take once the full extent of damage has been assessed.”
To protect members of the public, local police cordoned off the area outside the shop.
