Businesses operating out of the Hoo Marina Industrial Estate in Rochester were without power for close to two weeks following a fire that decimated a building.
Approximately 200 people evacuated their Hoo Marina Park residences when a recent fire took hold on the nearby industrial estate. The building in which the blaze began was occupied by Nettex, a company specialising in pharmaceutical and nutritional products for animals.
Enterprises running industrial facilities, such as warehouses and factories, are required to have necessary fire prevention and detection equipment fitted. Firms booking a smoke detector or fire alarm fitter in Chester, Rochester and other parts of the country can rely on qualified electricians to carry out work to code.
Reports of explosions and sightings of gas bottles being ejected into to the air were recounted by residents as the fire gained ground. Although homeowners have now returned to their residences, many enterprises on the industrial state were rendered incapable of resuming normal operations.
Custom bike company, Ritual Motorcycles, was located next door to the blaze and is owned by Brian Fegan. Commenting on the disruptions upon returning to his premises, Fegan said:
“We’re back in it now, but we’ve still not got power. We haven’t been able to work for a week and a half. This morning we got a generator up and running, which is giving me light.”
While powers supplies have been mostly maintained on site, engineers have had to work to reconnect isolated enterprises like Ritual Motorcycles by installing new mains cabling.
