Stockport Council has now produced a dedicated report that maps out its intention to further develop infrastructure that will support the anticipated growth and adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).
Defined as a draft provisional policy statement, the new report is entitled “Stockport Zero-Emission Vehicle Charging Infrastructure”, and it establishes the context of the policy, market growth, current position and trends of demand, along with how the local borough can rise meet this new challenge.
The town has pledged to achieve carbon-neutral status by 2038, however, there is still much to be done, with registered EVs in Stockport currently comprising a mere 0.5 per cent of all licensed vehicles.
However, although it only has 866 vehicles with low emissions registered at present, this is currently the second-highest number recorded within the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester.
At the moment, there is a total of eight different sites around the borough that have charging points the public can access. These locations include Stockport town centre’s multiple-storey car parking facility on Heaton Lane and Cheadle Royal Business Park. Additionally, only two rapid charging facilities are available that can power up an EV fully in a 20-minute timeframe.
Councils and companies planning EV charging facilities and other electrical installations in Chester and Stockport can look to certified electricians for a comprehensive service. Well-versed in the latest types of equipment available, qualified contractors can offer expert advice, help source the most dependable products possible and complete any installation required safely on site.
