The Managing Director of eco-friendly supermarket giant Iceland, Richard Walker, has put out a call to companies across Merseyside and North Wales to join a zero-carbon campaign.
The measures taken by the Flintshire-based supermarket to reduce its carbon footprint include the installation of all-new LED lighting in its stores, representing millions worth of investment. The state-of-the art system not only helps the environment but saves the company a fortune on its annual energy bills, as it has been set up to synchronise its usage with the opening and closing times of stores.
Commercial enterprises planning electrical installations in Chester, Merseyside and other parts of the UK can request LED lighting audits from professional electricians. Contractors can run a full assessment of sites and show them how much money they could save each year by adopting LED systems instead of traditional fluorescent options.
Additionally, more efficient freezers used by the supermarket now utilise greener gases and save 30 percent of the energy previously required. In 2019, Iceland made the move to use 100 percent renewable electricity and have since rescheduled the routes of their fleet journeys by training the drivers they employ to use telematics, reducing their fuel bills.
According to Deeside.com, regarding the call to join the zero-carbon campaign, Walker commented:
“We all have to step up and take action because the clock is ticking. The sheer scale of what we need to do can seem overwhelming, but there’s a starting point for all of us and it’s here and now and it’s about committing to a Net Zero future.”
Iceland is now looking to introduce electric vehicles into its fleet.
